Recreation
The Teatro de la Reforma was once known as the Opera House during the 19th century.This historic building would regularly feature plays and operas from all over Europe and Mexico.Construction began in 1860 and, once completed in 1866, it received national recognition as the theater that held the first performance of the Mexican National Anthem.The
theatre was refurbished in 1990 to restore and preserve its original design.
The "Festival Internacional de Otoño", Matamoros's International music and arts festival is regularly held at the Teatro de la Reforma each October.
